Ever wondered if we just stopped buying "Made in China"? what would happen? Would their economy slow to a more sustainable pace? Would we take better products home from the store?
There are some very ethical companies who carefully manufacture in China. China is the world's best producer of hemp textiles. But does your frying pan really have to be from there? Better yet, is that really what you want to cook your food in?

Re: buying from china
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 1:56 PMWell... Considering just about everything we consume is being made there, It's damn near impossible to do that... Believe me, I wish I could. -

Re: buying from china
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 3:26 PMIt's SIMPLY a matter of reading labels. Some items are nearly impossible to buy American made but if WE boycott WalMarts it's a step in the right direction.
I challenge anyone to consider how much oil it takes to ship products from there to here.

Mon, May 19, 2008 - 3:15 PMAlready with you on the Mallwart thingee. I will sop there on very rare occasions as when traveling it's sometimes the only game in town...
No matter where you shop these days, It near impossible to only buy American/local... And it's a crime our "leaders" have committed against us.

Re: buying from china
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 12:04 AMI stopped buying from the Wally Mart a few years ago. Decided to stop buying from China too. Figured they didn't treat their own people well enough, nor the Tibetans. Sometimes I faulter but it takes practice.
Buying "American" is a joke. "Made in the USA" is now Guam, Puerto Rico or the Mariana Islands. All, by the way, having ties to the lobbying/bribery of the now infamous Jack Abramoff.
The Mariana Islands now having much of the work being done by temporary laborers from.... China.
Good luck.

Re: buying from china
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 1:06 AMThis book came out in 2007 about a year-long effort for one family to not buy products made in China. I haven't read it but it might give some good tips looking to embark on their own effort.
